Hyfrecation uses low-level electrical energy to desiccate and remove unwanted or abnormal skin tissue. It's a minor, brief in-office electrosurgical procedure performed by a clinician, often under topical or local anesthesia for precise lesion destruction.
Hyfrecation treats skin tags, seborrheic keratoses, cherry angiomas, warts, molluscum, and other small benign lesions. We evaluate each spot first; suspicious lesions are referred for biopsy. Many appropriate lesions are resolved with a single treatment.
Most patients feel only mild discomfort — a brief stinging or heat sensation. We commonly apply topical or local anesthesia to numb the area. The procedure is quick, and additional comfort measures can be offered on request.
Healing typically takes one to two weeks: a small crust forms then sheds, revealing healed skin. Expect minimal downtime but avoid picking, strenuous exercise or irritating products. Full pigment normalization may take longer, especially on darker skin tones.
Risks include temporary redness, scabbing, pigment changes, infection, or rare scarring. Proper technique and aftercare minimize complications. We screen lesions to avoid treating suspicious or malignant growths and will recommend alternative care if needed.
Prepare by avoiding blood-thinning medications and alcohol per provider guidance and notify us of medical conditions. Aftercare includes gentle cleansing, keeping the area dry, applying recommended ointment, avoiding sun exposure, and returning for follow-up if healing issues arise.
